KML files containing the public rights of way of Stockton on Tees |
|
The council of Stockton on Tees provide a web page which gives information about their public rights of way. Although it's not obvious from that web page, it's possible to download from a Stockton on Tees web server an ESRI shape file that contains details of their public rights of way. An authority's Definitive Map is the authoritative source of their rights of way. The details of the public rights of way network contained in an authority's data are for information only, and are an interpretation of the Definitive Map, not the Definitive Map itself, and should not be relied on for determining the position or alignment of any public right of way. For legal purposes, an authority's data does not replace their Definitive Map. And changes may have been made to the Definitive Map that are not included in their data. The authority's data contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2024. Attempting to view this data with more detail than 1:10000 may produce an inaccurate rendering of the route of a public right of way. This web page says the data is licensed with the Ordnance Survey OpenData Licence. When I e-mailed the Ordnance Survey about the councils that had, during the last few years, successfully obtained an exemption from the Public Sector Mapping Agreement and released their data under terms equivalent to the Ordnance Survey OpenData Licence, they replied All data exempted by Ordnance Survey is now covered by the Open Government Licence (OGL), which superseded its own OS OpenData licence in April 2015. So it's possible for you to use this data provided you say that it is public sector information released by the council of Stockton on Tees under the Open Government Licence v3.0. I have transformed the ESRI shape file into a KML file. I have converted this KML file into the basic KML format that is used by this web site for all authorities. For each public right of way, this basic KML format has the name of the authority (Stockton on Tees), a unique number within the authority for the public right of way, the name or number of the parish/community, the name or number of the public right of way, the type of the public right of way (i.e., footpath, bridleway, ...) and any additional information about the public right of way that I've obtained from the data supplied by the authority. Here is a link to the converted KML file for Stockton on Tees. This KML file has been augmented with additional information. For each public right of way, the augmented format also includes its length (in miles), the longitude and latitude of its first point, the longitude and latitude of its last point, the eastings and northings of its first point and the eastings and northings of its last point. Here is a link to the augmented KML file for Stockton on Tees. This web site also provides information about the public rights of way of Stockton on Tees in GPX format, in CSV format and in GeoJSON format.
