KML files containing the public rights of way of York |
|
The council of York provides three web pages from where you can download data about their public rights of way: one web page is for Footpaths, another is for Bridleways and the other is for Restricted Byways. The three web pages has links to download the data in KML, GeoJSON and ESRI shape file formats. I have downloaded the data in zip files that have ESRI shape files: one zip file is for Footpaths, another is for Bridleways. and the other is for Restricted Byways. The Council also provides information about their paths on their online map. It may be that their map uses more up-to-date information. An authority's Definitive Map is the authoritative source of their rights of way. The details of the public rights of way network contained in an authority's data are for information only, and are an interpretation of the Definitive Map, not the Definitive Map itself, and should not be relied on for determining the position or alignment of any public right of way. For legal purposes, an authority's data does not replace their Definitive Map. And changes may have been made to the Definitive Map that are not included in their data. The authority's data contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2024. Attempting to view this data with more detail than 1:10000 may produce an inaccurate rendering of the route of a public right of way. The web pages for Footpaths, Bridleways and Restricted Byways say the datasets are made available under the Open Government Licence. So it's possible for you to use this data provided you give an attribution. I have transformed the ESRI shape files in the three zip files into three KML files: KML file for footpaths, a KML file for bridleways. and a KML file for restricted byways. I have combined the data in these three KML files and converted this data into the basic KML format that is used by this web site for all authorities. For each public right of way, this basic KML format has the name of the authority (York), a unique number within the authority for the public right of way, the name or number of the parish/community, the name or number of the public right of way, the type of the public right of way (i.e., footpath, bridleway, ...) and any additional information about the public right of way that I've obtained from the data supplied by the authority. Here is a link to the converted KML file for York. This KML file has been augmented with additional information. For each public right of way, the augmented format also includes its length (in miles), the longitude and latitude of its first point, the longitude and latitude of its last point, the eastings and northings of its first point and the eastings and northings of its last point. Here is a link to the augmented KML file for York. This web site also provides information about the public rights of way of York in GPX format, in CSV format and in GeoJSON format.
